About MultiplyChain
Mark Rimmer is an independent AI advisor and the founder of MultiplyChain. Nineteen years across agency networks, client-side digital and consulting, spent building the systems that are now being handed to AI.
Why this exists
From Enterprise Systems to Outcomes
The Agency Background
I spent a decade inside global agency networks building early programmatic and search technology stacks for enterprise clients. That was the first wave of automated decisioning in media, where systems started replacing human overrides in large-scale bidding.
Inside Global Operations
I then went client-side, running global digital for a services business operating in more than 60 countries. Managing technology at that spread gives you a very clear view of what actually holds organisations back: disconnected systems, legacy process, and silos that make any coherent technology strategy hard to hold together.
The Critical Insight
Across every sector I have worked in since, the same pattern shows up. AI and automation projects rarely fail because the technology was wrong. They fail because nobody had visibility into how the system was breaking, and because high-level decisions were made without anyone establishing where the money is actually made. MultiplyChain exists to fix both halves of that.
The Observation
The core observation across central data infrastructure and AI strategy is that while organizations have abundant data on what happened (historical reporting), they have remarkably little visibility into what is happening in real-time within complex automated systems. This leads to gradual degradation, where performance drifts over time without triggering binary 'down' alerts. Our focus on COBT (Commercial Outcome Based Technology) addresses this by aligning technical monitoring with actual business value degradation.

SignalCrux
How It Works
- It watches four things: Volatility (rapid, uncharacteristic swings in output quality or confidence), Critical slowing down (responses take longer to settle as the model works against internal inconsistency), Geometric entropy (the shape of the output distribution becomes disordered, showing hallucination or losing context), and Drift (a quiet move away from intended business logic, usually caused by changing external data).
Illustrative case: insurance claims
Reactive monitoring
A carrier automates claim approvals. Monitoring reports that 15% of claims were wrongly rejected in the last 24 hours. The damage is already done. Customers are angry and the audit team is buried in appeals.
With SignalCrux
Six hours before the first bad decision, entropy and slowing-down signals spike and the risk is flagged. Complex claims are diverted to manual review while the model issue is fixed. The customer never sees it.
How we work
Commercial case before technology
We do not shortlist vendors until we can say what the business is buying and what it is worth. If the answer is that AI is not worth it here, that is the recommendation you get.
Independent by construction
No reseller agreements. No vendor commissions. No implementation revenue riding on the answer. The only thing we sell is our own advice and our own product.
Built by people who have delivered
Every recommendation is written by someone who has had to make one of these programmes work inside a real organisation with real constraints.
Expertise Driven
Our methods are grounded in senior-level experience, ensuring that every strategic move is backed by real-world operational success.
Research
SignalCrux is built on formal research into Chaos/Order Boundary Theory, which defines the conditions under which complex sociotechnical systems lose stability before that loss becomes visible in conventional logging.
- The work covers: Formal system definition of the chaos/order boundary An observable proxy for high-frequency signal volatility Detection of critical slowing down in insurance and data processing pipelines Geometric entropy as a leading indicator of failure Download the paper
